About me:

Bubby with plane

I am known as 'Bub' to my friends and family, and I craft my wooden toys in my home in the town of Waitsfield, which is in the heart of  Vermont.  The Mad River Valley, as it is known, is composed of four towns and home to many small shops, three ski areas and historic covered bridges.  Both of my grandfathers and my own dad were “Jack of all Trades” kind of people, and working with wood was a family affair in my youth.  My family sold firewood from trees harvested from the mountainside that my grandfather owned, and I learned the many kinds of trees and properties of the various woods.  It was while I was in high school, inspired by my wood shop teacher, that I became interested in woodworking.

I believe in serving our community and  I have been a volunteer firefighter since 1977.  I also believe in in buying local whenever possible, so Cabot cheese, Booth Bros milk and local produce are staples in our home. Together with my wife, Deb, a nurse and artist, we raised two wonderful sons, Ben and Tim.

About The Toys:

These toys fire the imagination of adults and children alike.  As a child outgrows the toy, it makes a handsome addition to the décor of any home, and can even be passed on to grandchildren for another generation of enjoyment.   Some adults have even purchased my toys for the sole purpose of displaying them in their home-a fond reminder of childhood and simpler times.

Each of my toys is individually created from various hard woods-no two are exactly the same.  Because my toys are primarily intended for children,  I sand the wood to a smooth texture and treat the toys with butcher block conditioner to protect and to bring out  the natural beauty of the wood.  The toys are constructed with glue and dowels to give them strength and durability without the use of screws, nails or other metal fasteners.  Like any toy, they come without batteries, but unlike the others, these toys don't need them!

They come ready for play, and best of all, they're made in the USA!

I would be honored to make a wooden toy for you, your child or your grandchild to bring joy now and fond memories for the future.
